Description: Trace the origins of modern art at the dawn of the 20th century in a year-long lecture series on the art historic roots and development of modernism in Europe and America. The year 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armory Show at the Art Institute, a traveling exhibition that served as the first exposure of many Americans to modern and abstract art. Coinciding with the exhibition Picasso and Chicago, this series will examine the artists and movements—such as Cubism, Fauvism and Dada—that caused a major stir a century ago.
